Recently, a shocking tragedy occurred at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. According to NBC Chicago's affiliate on August 31, in the late night of August 30 local time, 21-year-old student Kara Wales at the school was shot several times and died in her dormitory.

Kara Wales is from the Chicago area. She was an outstanding gymnast in her lifetime and won the individual vaulting championship at the 2023 National Collegiate Gymnastics Championships. She not only excelled in the field of sports but also majored in management at the School of Business and Economics of the university.

The police said that when they received the report and arrived at the scene around 11:54 pm on August 30, they found multiple gunshot wounds on Wales. On August 31, a 23-year-old man was detained by the police. The suspect is being held in the Walworth County Jail and faces multiple charges including first-degree intentional homicide, endangering safety with a dangerous weapon, and disturbing the peace while armed. According to the investigation, before the shooting incident, Wales had a physical conflict with the suspect in the apartment. The police believe that Wales knew the man who fired the gun, but the specific relationship between the two is still unclear.

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Chancellor Corey King announced Wales's death in a message sent to all teachers and students on August 31 and highly praised her achievements, saying that her passing has plunged the entire university community into grief.
