On September 15, 2024, controversial former Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori was buried after three days of national mourning. During these three days, thousands of supporters lined up outside a museum in Lima to pay their respects to his coffin. Peruvian president Dina Boluarte held a grand ceremony at the presidential palace. Soldiers in 19th-century uniforms saluted Fujimori's coffin, but Boluarte did not mention Fujimori.

Fujimori died of cancer on Wednesday at the age of 86. He served as the president of Peru from 1990 to 2000. Later, he was convicted of crimes against humanity and spent most of the past 15 years in prison. Fujimori entered politics early on as a university professor. His government once helped put the country's economy on the right track and defeated the Shining Path organization. However, in 1992, he moved towards autocracy, undermining Peruvian democracy and leading to serious violations of human rights. In 2009, he was convicted of two massacres and the kidnapping of journalists and sentenced to 25 years in prison, becoming the first democratically elected leader in Latin America to be convicted of crimes against humanity. After going through struggles and the revocation and restoration of pardons, Fujimori was released from prison at the end of last year. On Saturday, Fujimori's children and hundreds of supporters attended a religious ceremony held for him at the Lima Grand Theater. Keiko Fujimori said that her father was freed from hatred and unjust imprisonment. Fujimori left behind four children. His eldest daughter, Keiko Fujimori, leads the conservative party "Popular Force Party".
