At a press conference held in Los Angeles, USA on August 10 local time, the city's mayor, Karen Bass, reaffirmed the plan for a "car-free" Olympics in 2028, stating that by then, spectators will use public transportation to reach various venues.

A "car-free" Olympics means that people must take public transportation to reach all venues. To achieve this goal, Los Angeles has been building and improving its transportation system. Bass said that more than 3,000 buses will be needed at that time, and these buses will be borrowed from various cities in the United States.

In addition, Los Angeles plans to encourage remote work and non-standard working hours (jobs) to prevent traffic chaos during the 2028 Olympics.

Bass said that she will meet with major employers in Los Angeles to discuss working hours. She believes that with the current level of technology, achieving this goal is easier than it was forty years ago. There may be employers asking whether they can work remotely during the 17 days of the Olympics, while essential workers will be exempted, just like during the pandemic.

The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics is seen as an opportunity to benefit the city's approximately 4 million residents. Bass plans to ensure that small businesses participate so that they can obtain some economic benefits. As the next Olympics approaches, 88 cities in Los Angeles County have begun to work together to solve the problem of the homeless population.

Los Angeles has hosted the Olympics twice before, in 1932 and 1984. In 1984, then-Mayor of Los Angeles Bradley staggered local working hours to reduce traffic congestion.

The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics may also attract a wider global audience as this Olympics will add flag football, squash, lacrosse, baseball, softball and cricket.

The chairperson of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee, Wasserman, said that in the past two weeks, hundreds of staff and partners, including US government officials, came to Paris to observe the work needed to hold a world-class Olympics. The budget for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics was previously estimated at $6.8 billion, and the specific data will be updated before the end of the year.
