Biden discloses inside story of withdrawal for the first time: Under "peer pressure", names Pelosi.

On August 12th, about three weeks after withdrawing from the general election, US President Biden gave his first media interview. He admitted that he was under pressure from within the Democratic Party before withdrawing and specifically mentioned former House Speaker Pelosi.

Biden performed poorly in the TV debate with Republican presidential candidate Trump, leading to outside doubts about whether his physical condition could handle another presidential term. Facing increasing pressure, Biden ultimately had to compromise and announced his withdrawal from the election on July 21st.

Biden recently gave an interview to CBS, which was aired on Sunday (August 10th) local time. Regarding the reason for withdrawing, Biden reaffirmed that there were no serious health problems for him. He blamed his poor performance in the debate on being sick at the time and dismissed concerns about his age and mental acuity.

Biden said: "Some of my Democratic colleagues in the Senate and the House of Representatives thought that I would affect them in the election campaign." He also said: "I was worried that if I continued to run, this would become the topic. You might ask me why Nancy Pelosi said or did this. I thought this would distract from the election."

Previously, some media reports said that Pelosi orchestrated the operation to force Biden to withdraw, and she herself did not completely deny the claim. Pelosi revealed in an interview last week that she has not spoken to Biden since his withdrawal. She also said that she and Biden have been friends for many years, but the political chaos in July has damaged their friendship.

The 84-year-old Pelosi is still currently a member of the US House of Representatives. She served as the leader of the House Democrats from 2003 to 2023, and was the Speaker of the House from 2007 to 2011 and from 2019 to 2023.
