Claudia Sheinbaum has been elected as the new president of Mexico

On August 14 local time, the Federal Electoral Tribunal of Mexico officially confirmed the results of the Mexican presidential election held on June 2. Claudia Sheinbaum was successfully elected as the new president of Mexico with a vote share of 59.76% (receiving a total of 35,924,519 votes).

Sheinbaum was born in June 1962 and is currently 61 years old. She holds a doctoral degree in energy engineering. She entered politics in 2000 and was elected mayor of Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, in 2018. In June 2023, she resigned as the mayor of Mexico City and defeated other candidates within her party in September of the same year, becoming the presidential candidate of the electoral alliance of the National Regeneration Movement Party of Mexico.

At 0:11 a.m. on June 3 this year, the current Mexican president López Obrador delivered a video speech congratulating Sheinbaum on her victory in the election. According to the arrangement, Sheinbaum is scheduled to officially take the oath of office in October this year. She will become the first female president of Mexico, marking an important milestone in Mexican history.

Sheinbaum is regarded by the Mexican media as the "political protégé" of the current president López Obrador.
