On August 17, a restaurant in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, was hit by a terrorist attack, killing at least 11 people and injuring 4 others.

According to the Somali police, the attackers remotely detonated a bomb inside the restaurant, and most of the victims were civilians. Personnel of the Somali security forces also frequented the restaurant.

This attack was claimed by the Somali extremist group "Al-Shabaab". "Al-Shabaab" is associated with "Al-Qaeda" and has frequently carried out terrorist attacks in Somalia and its neighboring countries in recent years. Although its main forces have withdrawn from Mogadishu and currently only control some rural areas, it still occasionally launches attacks on government institutions, hotels, restaurants and other places in Mogadishu, causing a large number of casualties. Just on the evening of the 2nd of this month, "Al-Shabaab" militants attacked the Lido Beach Hotel in Mogadishu, resulting in at least 32 deaths and 63 injuries.

Previously, the United Nations has issued a security warning to its staff, suggesting that a terrorist attack may occur in Somalia in the near future and they should avoid crowded public places and local government agencies as much as possible.

This terrorist attack on the restaurant has once again brought Somalia's security situation into the focus of the international community. People are deeply concerned about the life safety of the local people and expect the international community to work together to help Somalia get rid of the threat of terrorism and achieve peace and stability as soon as possible.
