A migrant ship capsizes in Serbia, leaving 10 dead and 2 missing

According to the Serbian Ministry of the Interior, at around 5 am local time on August 22, a ship carrying illegal immigrants capsized on the Drina River located in Serbia while trying to cross Serbia to reach Bosnia and Herzegovina.

There were about 30 people on board. After the accident, the Serbian Ministry of the Interior immediately dispatched more than a dozen search and rescue personnel to conduct search work. As of around 16:00 on August 22, nine bodies were found in Serbia and one victim was found in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Eighteen people survived, and two others are still missing. Serbian Interior Minister Bratislav Gašić said that the identification of the victims is underway.

The issue of migrants has always been one of the focuses of attention in the international community. The occurrence of such shipwreck accidents once again highlights the risks and challenges in the migration process. The Serbian government said it will conduct an in-depth investigation into this accident and take measures to strengthen the supervision of migrant ships to prevent similar tragedies from happening again.
