Police convoy in eastern Pakistan is attacked, leaving 11 dead and 7 injured

On August 22 local time, a serious attack on a police convoy occurred in Rahim Yar Khan district, Punjab Province in eastern Pakistan.

It is understood that two police vehicles carrying more than 20 policemen were attacked by rocket-propelled grenades from militants while returning to the base after completing their missions. This attack caused at least 11 policemen to die and 7 to be injured. The injured have been rushed to hospitals for treatment. At least two of them are in critical condition and the death toll may still rise. In addition, the attack also led to the disappearance of some people. The police have not announced the number of missing people yet, and relevant departments are making every effort to search.

Pakistani President Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz issued statements on the same day, strongly condemning this attack and instructing relevant departments to take severe and effective actions immediately to crack down on criminals and do their best to treat the injured. The chief ministers of Punjab Province and Sindh Province in the south also asked the police forces of the two provinces to cooperate immediately and jointly crack down on militants and bandits entrenched in the Indus River basin areas of the two provinces.
