On August 23 local time, the Armenian Center for Disease Prevention and Control reported that as of August 23, 75 cases of West Nile virus infection have been confirmed in the country, including one death.

According to the Armenian National News Agency, the deceased is a male born in 1938 who had multiple chronic diseases.

According to the country's disease control center, Armenia confirmed the first case of West Nile virus infection on August 10 this year. West Nile fever caused by the West Nile virus is a zoonotic disease that mainly spreads among birds. When mosquitoes bite people after sucking blood from infected birds, they will transmit the virus to people. The West Nile virus generally does not spread from person to person. Most patients will have symptoms such as fever, body pain, and vomiting. In severe cases, complications such as encephalitis may occur and even lead to death.

The country's disease control center calls on the public to strengthen prevention and can prevent mosquito bites by using mosquito repellent and wearing long pants and long-sleeved clothing.
