Emergency State Declared in Kursk Oblast, Russia

The acting governor of the southern Russian Kursk Oblast, Smirnov, announced on the evening of August 7 that due to the difficult combat situation in the border area of Kursk Oblast, the region has entered a state of emergency as of today.

Smirnov released this news on social media that evening. He also said that until the situation improves, the Russian side will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of local residents.

The Russian National Guard released a statement on its official website on the evening of the 7th, stating that in view of the attacks by the Ukrainian army on Kursk Oblast, the Russian National Guard will take additional measures to strengthen security measures for the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. The statement said that the Russian National Guard, together with the Russian Ministry of Defense and the border guard department of the Russian Federal Security Service, will increase their input to effectively deal with the reconnaissance and sabotage activities of Ukraine in the Russian Kursk Oblast and Belgorod Oblast.

The Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Gerasimov, said on the 7th that the Ukrainian army launched an offensive on Kursk Oblast starting from the 6th, with the aim of occupying Russian territory. The Russian ground and air forces prevented the Ukrainian army from advancing deeper into the Kursk direction. The Ukrainian army had 100 deaths and 215 injuries during the operation, and 54 pieces of armored equipment, including 7 tanks, were destroyed.

The assistant minister of the Russian Ministry of Health, Kuznetsov, told the media on the 7th that the attack by the Ukrainian armed forces on Kursk Oblast on the 6th has injured 24 people, including 6 children. According to TASS reports, the attack has caused multiple deaths.
