The Tunisian presidential palace issued a statement on the evening of August 7, 2024 local time, saying that Tunisian President Saied has dismissed Prime Minister Hachani and appointed Minister of Social Affairs Kamel Maadouri as the new prime minister.

Hachani has served as the prime minister of Tunisia since August 2023. Hours before his dismissal, Hachani said in a video that the government has made progress on a series of issues despite global challenges, including ensuring the country's food security and energy supply.

It is reported that this dismissal occurred when there have been frequent water and power outages in many places in Tunisia recently, causing public dissatisfaction. The Tunisian government said the country is suffering from a continuous drought, resulting in the need to implement water rationing. However, Saied believes that the water supply disruption issue is a conspiracy before the presidential election. Saied announced in July that he will participate in the presidential election to be held in October this year.

The Tunisian presidential election is held every five years. Saied was first elected as the president of Tunisia in October 2019. As of now, the presidential palace has not specified the specific reasons for dismissing Hachani. The new prime minister, Kamel Maadouri, was born in 1974 and has served as the country's minister of social affairs since May this year and has extensive experience in the field of social security.
