Recently, in order to vigorously promote environmental protection, Belgium enacted a law in June last year stipulating that disposable cups are prohibited from being used to sell beverages at large-scale events such as festivals and performances held locally. If the organizers do not provide environmentally friendly cups, they will be fined.

This summer, many music festivals in Belgium responded actively and provided reusable cups. Only one event organizer violated the regulations. It is reported that it will face a fine of up to 2 million euros. According to data from a company that rents out environmentally friendly cups, 20 million environmentally friendly cups were rented to major event organizers across the country last year, and it is expected to reach 25 to 28 million this year.

Previously, Belgium had always faced the problem of recycling waste such as disposable cups at event sites. Since the mandatory use of environmentally friendly cups, waste at open-air markets and closed music festival sites has been reduced by 40% and 63% respectively. Data shows that when an environmentally friendly cup is reused 10 times, the environmental protection effect will be very significant. At the same time, if the organizers set up a deposit system, that is, customers can only get their deposits back by returning the environmentally friendly cups, the cup recycling rate can be as high as 90% to 95%.

This measure in Belgium aims to reduce the pollution of disposable plastic products to the environment and promote the sustainable use of resources. Forcing event organizers to take environmental protection measures through legal means not only helps reduce the generation of garbage but also promotes the improvement of public environmental awareness. The implementation effect of this regulation is remarkable and provides a useful reference for other regions to solve similar environmental problems. In the future, Belgium will continue to strengthen supervision and promotion of environmental protection, make the concept of environmental protection more deeply rooted in people's hearts, and jointly contribute to the sustainable development of the earth. People from all walks of life also expect more regions to follow Belgium's example and jointly address the increasingly severe environmental challenges.
