On August 28 local time, Qureshi Hussein, spokesperson of the Sudanese National Civil Defense Committee, said that a total of 11 states in Sudan had been hit by heavy rain and floods recently, resulting in 148 deaths and 246 injuries. Among them, the casualties in Nile State and Northern State in northern Sudan are the most serious.

Hussein said that the floods also washed away some important roads in Sudan. The civil defense department is providing tents, blankets, drinking water and chemicals for purifying water to the people in the disaster areas.

In addition, the Sudanese Ministry of Health said on the same day that more than 150,000 people from about 36,000 families in Sudan have been affected by the recent heavy rain and floods. 138 people have died and more than 30,000 houses have partially or completely collapsed.

The rainy season in Sudan generally starts in July and lasts until September or October. During this period, the rainfall increases and floods occur frequently.
