Israeli Army's Bombing of Two Schools in Gaza City Kills At Least 15 People

News reports on August 8 stated that the civil defense department of the Gaza Strip in Palestine issued a statement on the same day, saying that the Israeli army bombed two schools in Gaza City, killing at least 15 people. These two schools housed a large number of displaced people, and many are still trapped under the rubble.

According to another report from Palestine on the 8th, the Israeli army also bombed a house in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza Strip and a house in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza Strip on the same day, causing at least 8 deaths and at least 6 deaths respectively.

The Israeli Defense Forces issued a statement on the afternoon of the 8th, stating that the Israeli Air Force attacked two command and control centers of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Gaza City on the same day. The command centers were located in the compounds of two schools, and armed personnel planned and carried out attacks against Israel from there. The Israeli army said this was an intelligence-based precise strike and claimed that multiple measures have been taken to reduce collateral damage to civilians.

According to Global News, the Israeli army issued a statement on the afternoon of August 8, stating that the army attacked two command and control centers of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Gaza City on the same day. According to the Israeli army, these two command centers were located within two schools, where armed personnel planned and carried out attacks against Israel. The Israeli army statement said that in the past 24 hours, the Israeli army attacked dozens of military targets across Gaza. The military wings of Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) said they fired anti-tank rockets and mortar shells at the Israeli army operating in the Gaza Strip, causing casualties on the other side.

Senior official of the civil defense department in the Gaza Strip, Mohammed al-Moghayer, accused the Israeli army's air raid of "clearly targeting schools and safe civilian facilities in the Gaza Strip". The attack on the two schools left more than 18 people dead, another 60 injured and more than 40 missing.

According to data released earlier on the 8th by the health department in the Gaza Strip of Palestine, in the past 24 hours, the Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have killed 22 people and injured 77. Since the outbreak of the new round of the Palestine-Israel conflict on October 7 last year, the Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have killed more than 39,000 Palestinians and injured over 91,000.
