As of August 30, 2024, the forest fire in Chiriboga-Kilanga, Loja Province, Ecuador has been ongoing for seven days, and the burned area has reached 3,877 hectares.

This fire has brought serious consequences, injuring a total of three people including a firefighter. At the same time, the smoke generated by the fire also caused 6,000 poultry at a local poultry farm to suffocate and die. The National Risk Management Secretariat of Ecuador said that although relevant departments are trying to control the fire, due to difficulties such as lack of resources and steep terrain, the severity of the fire has exceeded the local control capacity.

To deal with this severe situation, the Loja provincial government has actively coordinated the firefighting forces of other provinces in Ecuador and deployed helicopters to participate in firefighting operations. At present, the follow-up situation of the fire is still under continuous attention. The local government and relevant departments are making every effort to extinguish the fire as soon as possible and reduce losses and harms. This forest fire has also brought huge challenges to Ecuador's ecological environment and social economy. The subsequent ecological restoration and resettlement of affected people will also be arduous tasks. People from all walks of life are looking forward to this fire being effectively controlled as soon as possible so that the ecological environment and people's lives in the affected areas can gradually return to normal.
