The local operation department reported that the helicopter disappeared from the radar after taking off from the volcanic area. Before this, the helicopter crew did not issue any notification about aircraft malfunctions.

According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, rescuers found the wreckage of the helicopter on a hillside about 900 meters high. Preliminary investigations showed that pilot error led to the crash of the helicopter.
