In the early morning of September 3, a serious traffic accident occurred in Pichincha Province in central Ecuador. An inter-provincial bus carrying about 35 people overturned on the Pifo-Papallacta highway in eastern Pichincha Province.

According to Ecuadorian media reports, the accident occurred around 6 o'clock local time. After receiving the alarm, the urban safety command and control system quickly coordinated the Quito fire brigade, the Red Cross, the Ministry of Public Health and the national police and other departments to send rescue teams to the accident site to carry out rescue work. This accident led to at least 8 people unfortunately dying and another 13 people being injured.

As can be seen from the videos circulating online, a large number of injured people are sitting by the side of the road waiting for rescue. Most of them look panicked, and the cries of female passengers can be heard among them. The scene pictures show that the bus overturned on the grass beside the road, the glass windows were broken, and the inside of the bus was in a mess. Multiple ambulances, police cars and fire trucks were conducting rescue operations at the scene.

At present, the specific cause of this accident is still uncertain. Traffic accidents occur frequently in Ecuador. Complicated road conditions, poor vehicle conditions and speeding by drivers are all major factors leading to frequent accidents. This accident has brought great pain to the local people and once again sounded the alarm for traffic safety. Relevant departments will conduct in-depth investigations into the cause of the accident later to avoid the recurrence of similar tragedies.
