Recently, Venezuela has confirmed the detention of an American sailor who "entered the country without proper documentation." Venezuela's Attorney General Tarek William Saab said on the 5th that this American sailor has been detained in Venezuela since the end of last month. He holds dual nationality of the United States and Mexico. However, when entering the country, he did not carry any documents and did not have the resources to sustain himself in Venezuela.

Previously, a US Department of Defense official said on the 4th that an American navy sailor who went to Venezuela for personal matters was detained by the Venezuelan side around August 30. According to a notice from a Pentagon spokesperson, this sailor went to Venezuela without approval. The US Navy has launched an investigation into this matter. The US side hopes that this sailor can return to the country soon.

For many years, the United States has been imposing economic sanctions and diplomatic isolation on the Maduro government and supporting the Venezuelan opposition. With Maduro's re-election in July, the tense situation in US-Venezuela relations has further intensified. Just shortly before this, the US Department of Justice said that it had seized an aircraft used by Maduro in the Dominican Republic on the grounds that the aircraft was "illegally" purchased through a shell company and violated sanctions. The Venezuelan government condemned the US move as "piracy."

At present, all parties are closely watching the specific situation and subsequent handling of this detained American sailor. This incident once again highlights the complex and tense relationship between the United States and Venezuela, which may have a certain impact on the development of the regional situation. The international community is also continuously following the progress and trend of the incident.
