On August 8th, a 28-year-old Serbian athlete died unexpectedly while participating in a CrossFit swimming competition in Texas, the United States.

The live broadcast of the event showed that the athlete struggled near the finish line and then sank into the water and did not reappear for a long time. Although there were lifeguards on duty at the scene, they seemed not to notice the athlete's abnormality. About two hours later, the local police received an alarm and dispatched a diving team and drones for search and rescue, and finally retrieved the athlete's body.

The event organizer confirmed that there were lifeguards on site at the time of the incident, but they seemed to fail to notice the athlete's predicament in time. After the incident, the event organizer canceled the remaining events of the day for safety considerations.

Currently, the local police are investigating the specific cause of the athlete's death and assessing whether there was any negligence by the lifeguards. This tragedy has attracted widespread attention and also aroused the public's profound reflection on event safety management and the duties of lifeguards.
