Preliminary results: Incumbent president Tebboune wins the Algerian presidential election.

According to news from Algiers, on September 8 local time, the Algerian National Independent Election Commission announced the preliminary vote counting results of the presidential election on the 7th. Incumbent president Tebboune successfully won this election.

Mohamed Charfi, chairman of the Algerian National Independent Election Commission, announced that Tebboune, who ran as an independent candidate, won 5,329,253 votes in the presidential election, with a vote rate as high as 94.65%. In this election, the other two main candidates, Abdelali Hassanine Cherif, chairman of the Movement for a Peaceful Society Party, won 178,797 votes, with a vote rate of 3.17%; Youcef Aouchiche, the first secretary-general of the National Front of the Socialist Forces, won 122,146 votes, with a vote rate of 2.16%.

Charfi said at a press conference that the voter turnout for this presidential election nationwide was 48.03%. The entire election process was fair and transparent, fully reflecting the high electoral maturity of the Algerian people. He also emphasized that the Algerian National Independent Election Commission is committed to ensuring fair competition among the three candidates and effectively safeguarding the right of voters to freely elect.

Tebboune was born in November 1945. He has served as the minister of information and the minister of housing in Algeria. He also served as the prime minister in 2017. He won the general election in December 2019 and was elected president for a five-year term. In July this year, Tebboune announced that he would run for re-election as an independent candidate.

Algeria is the largest country in Africa in terms of area and is rich in oil and gas resources. Tebboune's re-election is of great significance for the continuous and stable development of Algeria in politics, economy, society and other aspects, and it has also attracted much attention from the international community. Subsequently, the preliminary results released by the Algerian Independent Election Supervisory Committee will be submitted to the Constitutional Council for review to finally confirm its validity.
