Recently, the German government made an important decision to restore controls on all land borders. German Interior and Homeland Minister Nancy Faeser has ordered the implementation of border passport inspection measures for a period of six months starting from September 16 this year.

This measure is mainly to reduce the number of people entering without visas, limit irregular migration and deal with the threats of terrorist organizations and cross-border criminal organizations. In October last year, Germany had already restored controls on the borders adjacent to Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Poland to limit the entry of irregular migrants, and this time the control scope will be expanded to all land borders. There have been many violent crimes related to immigrants in Germany recently. For example, last month's knife attack in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, killed three people. The suspect is an immigrant from Syria, which has drawn more attention to the immigration issue.

Germany shares borders with nine countries, namely Poland, Austria, France, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. These countries are all part of the European Schengen Area and originally do not require visas for mutual travel. However, with the increasingly prominent immigration issue and changes in the security situation, Germany has to take this measure.

Austria has clearly stated that it refuses to accept immigrants who are turned away by Germany. This decision not only has a major impact on Germany's immigration policy but may also have a domino effect on immigration flows and border management throughout Europe. The international community is also closely watching the implementation effect and follow-up impact of Germany's border control measures. The German government said that through these measures, it will strengthen domestic security and at the same time hopes to ease public concerns about the issue of illegal immigration. In the future, how to balance the relationship between immigration management and economic and social development under the premise of ensuring security will be an important challenge for Germany.
