On August 9 local time, the men's 4×100-meter relay final of the Paris Olympics was staged at the Stade de France. The US team crossed the finish line seventh but was disqualified for a foul. The official website's explanation was that the baton handover was illegal, with the baton being handed over outside the handover zone.

The competition in this men's 4×100-meter relay final was intense, and all seven teams with valid results achieved their season bests. Eventually, the Canadian team won the championship with 37.50 seconds, the South African team and the British team ranked second and third with 37.57 seconds and 37.61 seconds respectively, and the Japanese team got the fifth place with 37.78 seconds.

According to media reports, since 1995, the US men's 4×100-meter relay has experienced 11 cases of dropped batons, disqualification from the competition or bans in the Olympics and World Championships. Since winning the silver medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004, the US men's 4×100-meter relay team has not won a medal at the Olympics again. The last time they won the gold medal was at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
