Data shows that as many as 81% of babies under 6 months old are posted on the Internet by their parents without their knowledge. The relevant data for young children is only higher. When a child turns ten years old, parents can share nearly 200 photos of their children, and children are often completely unaware of this. For example, some parents will share content such as children sleeping, bathing, learning to use the toilet, and playing in the park. For parents, these are warm memories, but for children, they may be “embarrassing moments”.

This behavior may bring many adverse consequences. On the one hand, the content of photos may become the focus of online controversy and circulate on the Internet, leaving indelible marks on children. On the other hand, it may violate children's rights in the digital age and even give rise to bad events such as intimidation, school bullying, and sexual assault. Child psychologist Silvia said that many children have told her that they are troubled at school due to their parents' online sharing behavior and feel insecure, but parents don't take it seriously.

At present, Spain's "Organic Law on the Protection of Digital Rights and Guarantees of Digital Rights" sets the age of consent for digital rights at 14 years old. Before the age of 14, the decision-making power over the processing of children's personal data is in the hands of parents. However, if the publication of photos damages the reputation or honor of minors, it may be considered illegal even with the consent of parents. How to find a balance between online sharing and protecting children's rights has become an important issue facing many families in Spain.
