Forest fires occur frequently in Peru, causing serious casualties and losses

Since the beginning of this year, the forest fire situation in Peru has been severe. On September 13 local time, Peru's National Emergency Operations Center revealed that forest fires in the country have led to 10 deaths, 59 injuries, and 1,634 people being affected to varying degrees. Peru's Ministry of Environment said that up to now, as many as 2,800 forest fires have been recorded, and about 28,000 hectares of forests and cultivated land have been damaged.

It is understood that the main reasons for the frequent occurrence of fires include natural factors such as low precipitation, continuous high temperatures, and dry air. However, shockingly, about 98% of these fires are related to human activities. Some people's improper behaviors such as clearing land for farming and burning garbage accidentally caused forest fires. Some fires may also be caused by accidental situations such as short circuits in power lines.

Such large-scale forest fires not only pose a threat to the life safety of local residents but also have a serious negative impact on the ecological environment and economic development. A large amount of forest resources have been burned, the habitats of many rare animals and plants have been destroyed, and the ecological balance has been disrupted. At the same time, forest fires have also affected agricultural production and tourism development in surrounding areas, bringing huge economic losses to Peru. Facing this severe situation, the Peruvian government has strengthened the prevention and control of forest fires, increased patrol efforts, and called on the public to raise fire prevention awareness and jointly protect forest resources. However, due to the expected continuation of high temperature and drought weather conditions until November, the prevention and control of forest fires still faces huge challenges.
