According to reports from ABC and other media, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled on August 10, 2024, that Romania's appeal was successful, which means that the US women's floor exercise bronze medal may be invalid. Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu later in the day posted a message responding to the ruling, "Justice has been served."

In the women's floor exercise final of the gymnastics event at the Paris Olympics held on August 5, Romanian athlete Ana Barbosu initially scored 13.700 points, and US athlete Jordan Chiles scored 13.666 points. Barbosu should have won the bronze medal. But after the US team's coach filed an appeal, Chiles' score was increased by 0.1 point due to an upward adjustment of the difficulty coefficient of the movement, and she eventually won the bronze medal. This change quickly aroused dissatisfaction from Romania.

Reuters reported that Barbosu and the Romanian side then appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, arguing that the US team's appeal at that time exceeded the 1-minute time limit and did not comply with the relevant rules of the International Gymnastics Federation, so Chiles' score should not be increased by 0.1 point.

Regarding the above ruling, the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee and the US Gymnastics Association said in a joint statement that they were "shocked", "The appeal regarding the difficulty coefficient of Chiles' floor exercise movement was made in good faith. We believe that this complies with the relevant rules of the International Gymnastics Federation to ensure accurate scoring". The statement also said that during Romania's appeal, Chiles was subject to "unfounded and highly damaging attacks" on social media, "No athlete should be treated like this", "We condemn these attacks and those who participated in, supported or incited these attacks", "We will continue to support her".

According to another report from AFP, regarding the above ruling, Barbosu told Romanian media on August 10, "I can hardly express my feelings. I can't believe it", "When I heard the news, I was worried that it wasn't true. After I confirmed it, I hugged my parents and called everyone who helped me".

The Court of Arbitration for Sport said that the International Gymnastics Federation will determine the final ranking of the floor exercise final and "distribute the medals". It is not yet clear whether Jordan Chiles will be required to return the bronze medal.
