The Ukrainian president held a meeting of the Supreme Command Headquarters to receive a report on the situation of the operation in Kursk.

On August 12 local time, Ukrainian President Zelensky said via social media that he held a meeting of the Supreme Command Headquarters that day. At the meeting, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Serhiy Shaptala reported on the situation of the defense operation on the front line and the operation in Kursk.

Serhiy Shaptala claimed that currently, the Ukrainian Armed Forces control about 1,000 square kilometers of Russian territory. He pointed out that the Ukrainian army is continuing the offensive operation against Kursk, the battle is still ongoing, and the situation on the entire front is under the control of the Ukrainian army.

Zelensky instructed the Ukrainian Security Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to formulate a clear strategic guideline regarding the return of prisoners of war and requested the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to submit a list so that permission to use long-range weapons to defend the territory can be obtained from partners.

However, the Russian side denies the claims of the Ukrainian side. The Russian Defense Ministry reported on the 12th that in the past 24 hours, the Russian army repelled seven rounds of attacks by the Ukrainian army in the Kursk direction, foiling the attempts of enemy mobile groups to break through and penetrate into Russian territory. The Ukrainian army lost 260 people and 31 armored vehicles in the Kursk direction. The acting governor of Kursk Oblast, Smirnov, also reported to Russian President Putin that because there is no clear "front line" in Kursk at present, it is difficult to determine the exact location of the enemy. Currently, a 40-kilometer-long anti-tank trench has been dug in Kursk Oblast.
