Around 12:20 PM local time on August 12, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck Los Angeles, California, USA. The earthquake was initially measured at 4.7 magnitude and was later revised to 4.4 magnitude by the U.S. Geological Survey. The depth of the earthquake's focus was approximately 12.1 kilometers, and the epicenter was near Highland Park, east of downtown Los Angeles.

Obvious tremors were felt from downtown Los Angeles to multiple places such as Inglewood, Glendale, and Hermit, and even as far as Glendora and Hermit. The epicenter was only 2 miles away from Monterey Park, the core area of the Chinese community. Chinese people from Monterey Park to Chino Hills in the east also felt the tremors.

When the earthquake occurred, ESPN was broadcasting a live program. The host was scared out of her wits, and the cameraman couldn't hold the camera steady. The Los Angeles Police Department called on the public on social media to call 911 in case of emergency and be prepared for aftershocks. The Los Angeles City Fire Department has initiated a routine reconnaissance of the city to assess the damage. Firefighters from all 106 neighborhood fire stations have gone out for investigation.

Although the magnitude of this earthquake was not large, tremors were felt throughout the Los Angeles area. Some buildings swayed, and glasses and dishes rattled in many places. Social media was filled with "earthquake records" posted by Los Angeles netizens. However, as of now, there have been no reports of infrastructure damage or casualties.
