On August 20 local time, the United Nations, the African Union, as well as the United States, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, etc. issued a joint statement on the occasion of participating in a new round of ceasefire negotiations for the armed conflict in Sudan. The statement emphatically emphasizes the urgency for both sides of the armed conflict in Sudan to abide by international humanitarian law and jointly calls on both sides to earnestly implement the commitments in the Jeddah Declaration, including protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure such as hospitals and schools, withdrawing from occupied civilian facilities, and allowing civilians free passage.

The statement also mentions that representatives of the mediators of the armed conflict in Sudan held talks with the delegation of the Rapid Support Forces on the 19th. The discussions focused on allowing humanitarian workers and aid supplies to enter and pass through all areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces safely and unimpeded. The mediators welcome the willingness of the Rapid Support Forces to take further measures to protect civilians and improve the local humanitarian situation in other ways.

On April 15, 2023, the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces erupted in an armed conflict in the capital Khartoum, and then spread to other regions and continue to this day. A new round of ceasefire negotiations for the armed conflict in Sudan was launched in Geneva, Switzerland on August 14. The Rapid Support Forces sent a delegation to participate, while the Sudanese Armed Forces have not sent representatives so far. On August 20, a delegation of the Sudanese government will consult with representatives of mediators such as Egypt and the United States in the Egyptian capital Cairo on the implementation of the Jeddah Declaration.
