In Iran, a bus rollover and fire accident leads to 28 deaths

On the evening of August 20 local time, a bus overturned and caught fire in Taft City, Yazd Province, Iran. As of August 21, the death toll has risen to 28, and another 20 people were injured. The death toll may further increase.

At the time of the accident, there were 53 passengers on the bus. According to the Islamic Republic News Agency of Iran and Iran's national television station on August 21, this bus is from Pakistan and is carrying pilgrims to Iraq. A car accident occurred near Taft City, Yazd Province, about 500 kilometers from the Iranian capital Tehran.

Local emergency department official Mohammad Ali Malekzadeh said that there were 51 people on the bus and it overturned and caught fire in front of a checkpoint. Malekzadeh attributed the accident to brake failure and the inattention of the bus driver. According to Pakistani media reports, the passengers on the bus are from Larkana City, Sindh Province, Pakistan. Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed condolences to the victims of the car accident.

Iran's First Vice President Ali made a phone call to the governor of Yazd Province in Iran to inquire about the cause and progress of the bus rollover accident carrying Pakistani passengers, asking Yazd Province to provide more help and services to the accident passengers and at the same time expressing condolences to the families of the dead and injured.
