Explosion at a pharmaceutical factory in Andhra Pradesh, India leaves 17 dead and 41 injured

On August 21, a serious explosion occurred at a pharmaceutical factory in Andhra Pradesh, India, and a fire broke out. As of now, the death toll has risen to 17, and another 41 people were injured.

The explosion occurred in a pharmaceutical factory in a local economic development zone. At the time of the incident, about 190 workers were on duty. The explosion occurred at about 2 pm on that day. After the accident, about 30 injured people were transferred to local hospitals for treatment, and 13 people trapped in the pharmaceutical factory have also been rescued. The pharmaceutical factory operates in two shifts and has a total of 381 employees. Since the fire occurred during lunchtime, there are relatively fewer employees on site.

Regarding the cause of the explosion, local official Vijayakrishnan said that this accident was not caused by the explosion of a chemical device. Officials suspect that the fire is related to electricity. Previously, some media reported that the fire was caused by the explosion of a chemical reaction device in the factory.

After the accident, dozens of fire trucks quickly went to put out the fire, but the scene was filled with smoke, which brought certain obstacles to the rescue operation. This incident has aroused widespread concern and worry among local people. The local government has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the accident.
