On August 23 local time, continuous heavy rain hit the Karon area of Phuket Island in Thailand, triggering a serious landslide.

This disaster has had a huge impact on the local area. As of the morning of the 23rd, seven people have unfortunately died, including several Burmese women, one Thai woman, and a Russian couple. Another two people are missing and their fates are unknown. After the landslide occurred, the scene was in a mess. A large amount of earth and rocks poured down, destroying roads and surrounding buildings, bringing great difficulties to the rescue work.

The Phuket Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, the Karon Municipal Government, and other relevant departments took quick action and launched search and rescue operations immediately. Rescuers, disregarding danger, fully searched for people who might be buried and sent the injured people to nearby hospitals for treatment. At present, the rain has stopped and the water level has also dropped, which provides certain conveniences for the rescue work.

Relevant departments call on the public to remain highly vigilant and closely follow weather changes and official announcements. This landslide not only poses a serious threat to the safety of lives and property of local residents but also has an adverse impact on the tourism industry of Phuket Island. As a famous tourist destination in Thailand, Phuket attracts a large number of domestic and foreign tourists. The landslide has damaged some tourist attractions and blocked some roads, interfering with tourists' travel and sightseeing plans.

This disaster once again reminds people that the destructive power of natural disasters cannot be underestimated. We should strengthen the monitoring and protection of the natural environment, improve our ability to respond to natural disasters, and at the same time enhance our own safety awareness so that we can take correct countermeasures in the event of disasters to minimize the losses caused by disasters.
