In Japan, 119 deaths are suspected to be related to taking health supplements

On August 23 local time, Osaka City, Japan, where the headquarters of Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. is located, announced that according to the "Food Sanitation Law", it will summarize the investigation results on the cause of health problems caused by Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.'s red yeast health supplement by the end of 2024.

As of August 22, the number of deaths under investigation suspected to be related to this health supplement has increased to 119. 

At present, interview investigations with the families of the deceased and the attending physicians in 71 of the 119 cases have been completed. The causal relationship has not been determined. The cause is expected to be determined in autumn, and the scale of victims will be determined as a food poisoning incident around December this year.

Osaka City also plans to enter the site of Kobayashi Pharmaceutical's Osaka factory for the third time on August 27 and 28. The factory was closed in December last year.
