According to news on August 23 local time, the dengue fever epidemic situation in Honduras in 2024 is severe. The number of confirmed cases has exceeded 110,000, including 46 deaths. Another 91 deaths are under investigation.

Since the beginning of this year, the dengue fever epidemic has been continuously spreading in Honduras. Earlier, due to the sharp increase in cases, Honduras declared a "national state of emergency for dengue fever" on May 31. As of May 30 at that time, there were more than 18,000 cumulative confirmed cases of dengue fever and 13 cumulative deaths. Honduras is one of the countries with the most severe epidemic situation in Central America.

Dengue fever is an acute arboviral infectious disease caused by the dengue virus and mainly transmitted through the bite of Aedes mosquitoes. The Honduran Ministry of Health had previously issued the highest-level warning for the dengue fever epidemic.

Facing the epidemic, the Honduran government has taken a series of measures, including adding temporary wards in medical institutions and organizing personnel from the health department to control the epidemic by spraying insecticides and cleaning up mosquito breeding grounds. At the same time, the Chinese Embassy in Honduras has also issued announcements many times, reminding Chinese citizens in Honduras to pay close attention to the development of the epidemic situation and the information released by the local government, and take good protection measures according to the suggestions of the health department. If suspected symptoms appear, seek medical attention in time. After diagnosis, follow the doctor's advice for treatment.

Dengue fever epidemics have also occurred in many places around the world this year. The World Health Organization has reported that the number of dengue fever infections in 2024 is higher than in the same period in previous years. The epidemic situation in Honduras has also sounded an alarm for other countries and regions. Preventing and controlling the dengue fever epidemic has become an important task in the global public health field. Subsequently, the international community will continue to pay attention to the development of the dengue fever epidemic in Honduras and the progress of prevention and control work.
