On September 1, Israeli officials said that three Israeli policemen were shot dead at a checkpoint controlled by the Israeli army near the West Bank city of Hebron.

Subsequently, the Israeli army quickly launched a manhunt operation and killed the attacker in a house in Hebron. Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir, who represents the ultra-right hardliners, said that more checkpoints should be set up in the area.

On the same day, Hamas issued a statement praising the actions of the attacker, but the organization did not claim responsibility for the attack.

Recently, the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli region has remained tense. Since Hamas launched an attack from Gaza on October 7 last year, triggering a war, violent incidents in the West Bank have surged. More than 650 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank mainly due to Israeli military arrest operations. On the Israeli side, large-scale military operations have also been continuously carried out in the West Bank. For example, as of September 1, the military operation that began on August 28 has caused the deaths of 24 Palestinians. Moreover, the actions of the Israeli army have also caused serious damage to the infrastructure including water, electricity, and the Internet in Jenin, and residents are short of living supplies.

The shooting death of three Israeli policemen has further intensified regional tensions and instability factors, attracting widespread attention from the international community. All parties are calling on both the Palestinians and the Israelis to exercise restraint and resolve disputes through peaceful negotiations to avoid more casualties and escalation of conflicts. We will continue to pay attention to the subsequent development of the situation and related peace efforts and bring you further reports.
