According to news on September 6, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced on the 5th that Colt Gray's father, Colin Gray, the suspect in the shooting at Appalachian Middle School, was arrested. Colin Gray is accused of four counts of manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of child abuse.

Chris Hossy, director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, said at a news conference that the charges against Colin Gray stem from his "deliberately allowing his son to possess a weapon." Previously, Colin Gray had revealed to investigators that the gun used by the suspect, Colt, in the shooting was a holiday gift he gave in December 2023.

On the 4th local time, a shooting incident occurred at Appalachian Middle School in Winder, Barrow County, Georgia, resulting in four deaths and nine injuries. This is the first school shooting in the United States since the start of the fall semester this year, once again triggering heated discussions in American society about gun control policies.

It is reported that the suspect, Colt Gray, is 14 years old and has been charged with four felony counts of murder and will be tried as an ***. He will make his first appearance in the Georgia Superior Court via video link on the 6th local time.

School shootings occur frequently in the United States. Charging the parents of the perpetrator of a school shooting this time may become a new response strategy. Previously, a pair of parents in Michigan were sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison respectively in April this year due to the serious consequences caused by their son in a school shooting in 2021. This is the first time that parents of students who committed multiple casualties in a school shooting in the United States have been sentenced. A study by the US Department of Homeland Security shows that about 75% of school shooters obtain weapons from home. At present, Colin Gray has been detained and held at the Barrow County Detention Center. The follow-up development of the case remains to be further watched.
