On August 9, 2024 local time, a passenger plane of Brazilian airline Voepass crashed in Vinedo, São Paulo state, southeastern Brazil. There were a total of 57 passengers and 4 crew members on board, all of whom were killed. The passenger plane was a turboprop aircraft of the ATR-72 type. It took off from Cascavel, southern Paraná state, Brazil, and was planned to fly to Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo state.

A witness on the scene said in an interview that he saw the passenger plane "fall straight down"; another witness said that the scene at that time was terrifying. According to a report from Flightradar24, meteorological reports before and after the accident showed that there were turbulence, thunderstorm and icing warnings in the area where the plane lost control. Some ***yses pointed out that icing on the plane during flight is a very dangerous situation, which may make the plane heavier and reduce lift.

At about 3:30 p.m. on the same day, the Brazilian authorities confirmed that all 61 people on board were killed; at about 4:00 p.m., it was confirmed that there were no casualties in the residential area at the crash site. After the accident, witnesses recounted the terrifying scene when the accident happened. Witness Natalie said that she heard a very loud noise and felt it was very close to her. At first, she thought it was a drone. She looked up at the sky and saw a plane spinning. Witness Barbosa said that he saw the plane spinning and falling, almost landing on his house. He was scared and is still shaking.

On the evening of August 9 local time, Brazilian President Lula signed a decree expressing condolences to the victims of the air crash that occurred that afternoon and announced a three-day national mourning starting from that day.

Currently, the black box of the crashed plane has been found and the cause of the accident is still under further investigation.
