The office of the president of Bangladesh issued a statement in Dhaka on the 6th saying that the president of Bangladesh announced the dissolution of the National Assembly on the same day.

The statement said that President Mohammed Shahabuddin Chuadhy made the decision to dissolve the parliament after discussions with the chiefs of staff of the three armed forces, leaders of various political parties, representatives of civil society, etc.

The statement said that the president ordered the release of the imprisoned former prime minister Khaleda Zia. Khaleda Zia's press spokesperson Shamsuddin Didar told reporters that Zia has been released.

The chief of staff of the Bangladesh Army, Waqeel Uzzaman, said in a TV speech on the 5th that the country's prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, resigned on the same day and that a provisional government would be established soon to manage the country.

Bangladesh has witnessed numerous protests against the work-related system recently. It's reported that the violent activities during the protests have led to the deaths of more than 200 people. On the 4th of this month, a nationwide protest occurred in Bangladesh, demanding the resignation of Hasina and her government.
